In midsummer of 2020, the virus showed a vicious resurgence after many quarantine restrictions were lifted in several states including Florida, Texas, Arizona, and California.
I was an essential worker, so the dominant story didn't really apply to me. I would have loved to stay home.
I had COVID in January,
2020 and got written up for missing too many days.
I got 7 weeks unpaid leave that spring. At least I had unemployment.
I have COPD, an artificial heart valve, and I'm over 60.
I went to work, masked up, wore gloves, disinfected my work space after every 1 hour group class. Taking vacation days to reduce exposure. Drinking tonic and lime in case quinine really helps.
Married to a Trumper so no shots (divorced last year).
Tell me again how awful it was, kicking it in your living room. Safe and sound. Playing with your kids. Teaching them things. Learning new skills.
Overall, I agree. I faced my share of Karens during mandatory masking.
What I take issue with is the idea that "we" stayed home, got bored, and got careless. Staying home was a privilege denied those of us whose exposure/risk was needlessly increased by people who wanted to SHOP, to BROWSE!

I'm sorry. Are you unhappy with my take, or are you supporting it? I can't tell.

I wholeheartedly agree, Jodi. You'd probably have known that if you read my prior entries in this series about the shit show that was 2020. You might want to check out my earlier posts about the pandemic...this one's pretty good right here: https://thedogsofgenerationx.substack.com/p/late-night-dining-looting-and-pillaging
