Sparks opened for Nektar, somewhere around 1975 in SF. I think it’s why i’m so deaf today.

Omg loved this article! Memories. My first concert was 1979, REO Speedwagon. Have my ticket stubs from all of my concerts. I did see Van Halen in Nashville in 2012. Omg it was like reliving my teen years and had a blast! Thanks for this trip down concert memory lane!

You gave me goosebumps and tingles up and down my spine with your oh so accurate description of going to a gig! My musical tastes differ to yours, but it doesn't matter - the excitement, the expectation, the thrill of seeing a favourite band or singer - it's exhilarating! I haven't been to a show for a while because of mobility problems - not sure if I'm ever going to get to another one - but I'm searching out live recordings of my faves. Bowie 1983 playing now - I'll never forgive my parents for not letting me go to that concert in Sydney. Would've had to travel by bus with other excited fans and there was no way my parents would allow that. Oh well. Thank you! Thank you! Thank you!

You are quite welcome. Nothing like live music to feed the soul. :) xo

That is a fantastic memory! So good! OH man such great memories of going to concerts in the 80's! One of my first was the US Festival '83, I was 15 with my BFF, school had just ended and we were officially high school "juniors" now, thinking we were pretty bad*ss. It's crazy to think but mini packs of Camel cigarettes were given away free as a publicity thing, which led to my BFF teaching me how to smoke in between the port-a-potties (I know...oh jayzus)! The music was awesome, the day was hot, they hosed us down wth fire hoses or the like from towers, the people, it was crazy fun and we arrived early and didn't leave until the end of that night. I got in a sh*t ton of trouble with my mom when we didn't return back to our plot of concert grass at the promised time. Many, many concerts from those days. Especially when we got our drivers licencses, then it was usually 4-6 of us teenagers on our own to see favorite bands at Glen Helen, Pacific Amphitheater, Coliseum, of course the Fabulous Forum...such a variety of bands/genres too. My love for live music has not waned! I can't believe our parents were cool with us driving from the desert to LA all those times alone at that age, it was great though! Loved reading this and thank you for bringing back all those great memories and the good trouble that came with it ;)

Oh, the Us Fest! You don’t need to ‘think’ that was bad ass. You attending WAS bad ass! Did you go to all 3 days or just the heavy metal Saturday?

LOL actually my mom surprised us with tickets for Saturday, “New Wave” day (Clash headliner), what a line up (although looking back, what a line up for all three days!), we would have been happy with any of the days TBH, but that was a great day for us because we were obsessed with Men At Work at the time and pretty much almost every other band that played that day! Were you there for metal day 2?! Your band was headlining!🤘🏼

New wave day was a better lineup than metal day!
